live events

From 2013 to our recent COVID-related closure in 2020, I resided at Avalon Hollywood (formerly The Palace), a historic venue and nightclub in the Walk of Fame area of Hollywood and Vine. I controlled video content and live cues for over a thousand special events, concerts, fundraisers, film screenings, and parties.  Each weekend, the 40-foot stage transformed into a nightclub.  World-class DJs packed the house with electronic music fans, while as house VJ, I kept the visuals and lighting dancing to the same beat as the crowd below.  But whether at a high-class catered fundraiser or in the middle of the dancefloor, I turn live events into memorable experiences.

Over the years, I've been lucky to work with a number of fantastic clients on a variety of fun and engaging projects.  But inside the fun, there's lots of work to be done.  My duties were widespread and turnkey:  I assessed clients' plans, offered creative options, provided spec and deliverables, received content, formatted it and designed its use on our custom 13-screen video system, and operated the video console for all our most memorable live events.  Here are a few of my favorites.

art in motion

Ever since reading a Ray Tracing manual as a teen, I enjoy rendering 3D and motion graphics via Cinema4D, Blender, and Adobe CC.  But for getting the job done and showing those creations to a wide audience, Resolume Arena is the industry standard for events and live performance.  I use a toolkit of Arena, Premiere, and Photoshop, to deliver formats and ideas in new ways.

Sabrina Carpenter - Jimmy Kimmel Live - March 2018

I designed and edited the background video and feedback loop camer effect for Sabrina Carpenter's live performance on Jimmy Kimmel.  After Effects CC, Premiere.

Rob Thomas - Editing, Videography Reel

This is a collection of videos I shot and edited when working as an editor and cameraman in New York City.

graphic design

For my entire life, I've been exploring artistic expression through collective and personal history: music, painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video, and performance.  How are our influences and desires enmeshed within the massive, literal Web of meaning, purpose, and reference we know today?  Here are a few snapshots from 10 years of design.
